Misspelled Signs Grab NC Town's Attention

A handful of new wayfinding signs in Lincolnton are getting social media attention after people found a spelling error in two of the signs.

LINCOLNTON, N.C. -- A handful of new wayfinding signs in Lincolnton are getting social media attention after people found a spelling error in two of the signs.

The signs give directions to city landmarks as part of an effort to enhance its streetscape, but two of the signs left out a second "u" in the word, "cultural."

"I probably would do the same thing," Mike Owen chuckled. "No big error to me."

"That's a noticeable error," Barbara Ballard said.

"Well I think it's a very honest mistake," Matt Burton said. "Something that could easily be fixed."

Lincolnton's city manager said each of the eight signs they purchased cost $500 for a total of $4,000.

The city said the sign vendor is in the process of fixing the two signs at no additional cost to taxpayers.
