Lexington Mom, Daughter Taken Into Custody For Misdemeanor Child Abuse

LEXINGTON, NC - A mother and her 18-year-old daughter were taken into custody Sunday after Davidson County deputies found a two-month old and a seven-year-old were left in the care of a 12-year old.

Deputies said the children had to feed themselves, and had no access to a phone in the event of an emergency. Police were called about an infant being left in the care of a child.

Ann Marie Anderson, 38, and her daughter, Kaneisha Rene Johnson, were taken into custody.

The Department of Social Services responded to the residence on Gate West Drive in Lexington. Social Services took custody of the children after they couldn't make contact with the children's mother. Warrants were sought out for Anderson and Johnson.

Anderson was charged with two counts of misdemeanor child neglect and two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Johnson was charged with one count of misdemeanor child neglect and one count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. The two carry a court date of Nov. 14.
