Mother Pleads Guilty After Leaving Twins Home Alone For Days

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- A mother who police say left her twin 3-year-old children alone for a few days in an apartment will spend five months in the Forsyth County jail.

Kia Chavious, Forsyth County Assistant DA, said Betrice Tribble pleaded guilty Thursday to two counts of Misdemeanor Child Abuse and one count Resisting a Public Officer.

In April, officers with the Winston-Salem Police Department were responding to a shots fired call at an apartment building on Highland Avenue, when they discovered the front door to one of the apartments was open.Inside, officers found the twins left alone in a bedroom with a shoelace tied around the door knob and to a banister.

Police said the children were not only dehydrated but covered in urine and feces. They believe Tribble left them alone for two days.

After Tribble serves her sentence she'll be on probation for 18 months. The twins are in the care of Tribble's mother.
