Motorcyclist Dies In Randolph County Crash

ASHEBORO, N.C. -- Emergency workers are investigating a fatal accident in Asheboro. According to state highway patrol, it happened around 9 p.m. Friday night on S. Fayetteville Street near Eubanks Generator and Starter, which is just outside the city limits of Asheboro.

Troopers say DeLewis Johnson was speeding on a motorcycle and ran into the back of a truck.

He died on scene.

The truck driver was taken to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

A spokesperson with highway patrol says, right before the accident, a trooper was chasing the motorcycle in Sea Grove after clocking it at 86 miles per hour in a 35 miles per hour zone.

But troopers say they had to call off the chase because the motorcyclist was going too fast and they were entering the city limits.

The spokesperson notes the accident did not happen during the chase.
