Mover Dies After Being Hit By Driver Who Also Hit Mom, Daughter

WELCOME, N.C.-- A man who was hit by a car while helping a mom and daughter move into their Davidson County house has died.

North Carolina State Highway Patrol (NCSHP) confirms that Kristen Simpson died last week. The accident happened on August 23rd on Craver Road in Welcome, NC 

Simpson was helping the mom and her daughter unload the moving truck when a car driven by Mitsuko Newsome hit all three of them. Newsome told troopers she tried to go around the truck but hit the gas pedal instead of the brake pedal. She said she veered to the right and the car hit Simpson, the woman and her 10-year-old daughter.

All three were taken to the hospital and Simpson remained in Intensive Care Unit (ICU), at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center,  until his death last week.

The child (Sadie Shipp) is still in the hospital. Trooper Nathan Varney tells WFMY News 2 the girl will have to learn to walk again and has a lot of healing to do. 

Investigators are meeting with the District Attorney's office to decide if any charges will be filed in the case.
