NC Pastor In Critical Condition After Hit-And-Run in Winston-Salem: Police

WINSTON-SALEM — Police say a pastor is in critical condition after he was hit by a car near Hanes Mall, and the driver took off.

Officers responded to the accident on Hanes Mall Circle just outside the Texas Roadhouse restaurant shortly before 8 p.m.

Police say Christopher Meade, the lead pastor at Crosspoint Church in Taylorsville, had just left the restaurant and was walking to his car. The church's Facebook page posted an update on Meade's status Wednesday night.

Witnesses told police Meade was speaking to another person as they walked through the hedges that separate the restaurant parking lot and Hanes Mall Circle - that's when Meade stepped out into traffic and was hit by a white SUV.

Police say the SUV left the scene going toward Stratford Road.

Meade was transported to Baptist Hospital and is in critical condition with life-threatening injuries. Meade was in Winston-Salem visiting someone in the hospital.

"We know that God is in control and we believe that he'll take care of Chris," said Associate Pastor Jeff Pope.

Police are looking for a white SUV with damage to the front right side of the vehicle and with possible damage along the right side.
