NC Soldier Killed In Non-Combat Incident In Afghanistan

Monday, the Department of Defense (DoD) announced the death of a North Carolina soldier who killed while supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.

According to DoD, Staff Sgt. Girard D. Gass Jr., of Lumber Bridge, NC died Aug. 3, in Jalalabad Air Field Hospital, Afghanistan. His death was from a non-combat related incident while on patrol that occurred in Nangarhar Province, Afghanistan.

He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group out of Fort Bragg, NC.
