SALISBURY, N.C. -- They’ve given everything to protect our freedoms no matter the sacrifice.
Now a group of veterans know all too well what it means to push themselves for medals.
A group of 13 members of the Salisbury VA Medical Center team nicknamed, “Blue Steel” traveled to Denver for the 36th National Veterans Wheelchair Games or NVWG. The event is the largest wheelchair sporting event in the world.
The group won 29 individual and team medals in 19 different events over the summer.
Bruce Couture, a U.S. Army Veteran said, “I never thought I’d be able to ever do these things again at all.”
Recently the team was honored for their service and for the medals they brought back home.
