GREENSBORO - Plans for a new state-of-the-art swimming pool at the Greensboro Coliseum Complex were announced Tuesday afternoon.
The pool will is a big part of Greensboro continuing to host the YMCA National Short Course Swimming Championship for 2018, 2019 and 2020. The Championship is regarded as one of the top youth swimming competitions in the nation. The Greensboro Aquatic Center has hosted the championship each year since 2012.
Officials hope the new pool will be completed by 2019.

"We are excited and confident that Greensboro will continue to make our national championship meet extraordinary for our youth athletes and their coaches," said Lindsay Mondick, Senior Manager of Aquatics for YMCA of the USA.
The Aquatic Center says than 1,600 swimmers from 200 plus YMCAs nationwide will compete at the event each year with an additional 5,000 parents, coaches and volunteers also involved.
The pool will be next to the Greensboro Aquatic Center between a small parking lot and the walkway leading up to the coliseum.
“We are thrilled to have the opportunity to continue to build on the strong relationship we have with YMCA of the USA,” said Aquatic Center manager Susan Braman. “YMCA championships are among the largest and most prestigious events we have ever hosted at the GAC.”
