OAK RIDGE, N.C. -- The Oak Ridge Planning Committee recommended against rezoning the 133-acre property owned by Kevin Harvick Thursday night.
Neighbors became concerned after Harvick and a developer submitted zoning requests to take the property where he built his home and get the go to build dozens more homes.
Bruce Oakley, Oak Ridge Town Manager, said the board voted 5-2 against rezoning because they felt the it was not consistent with the ordinance and surrounding areas.
Oakley said about 50 people were present at the town hall meeting and each side along with their attorneys got 20 minutes each to express their concerns and questions.
Some of the issues citizens brought up were concerns about crowds, traffic, and the density of development.
The council will vote on the zoning request at the meeting on May 8th.
