BURLINGTON, N.C. -- Burlington Police say they've arrested a 14-year-old boy in connection with an assault on a woman at her house early Monday morning. Police say the teenager lived in the same neighborhood as the victim. On Tuesday, Police released a picture of the suspect's shoe they collected as evidence. Investigators say the shoe also helped them to identify the teenager.
On Monday, police received a 911 hang-up call to a house on Lakeside Avenue. Investigators say the woman was in her backyard when the teenager approached her and shot her with a pellet handgun or small caliber handgun. Police say he then hit her in the face and head area.
A neighbor saw the attack happen and the teenager who ran away from the house. The woman was able to get to her neighbor's house where EMS arrived. Police say the teenager covered his face during the attack.
The woman was taken to Alamance Regional Medical Hospital and then transferred to UNC Hospital for treatment. Police say the woman's injuries did not appear to be life threatening.
The teenager is in custody at the juvenile detention office. He's being held on the offense of Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Inflicting Serious Injury, with Intent to Kill.
