Police: Burlington Man Tried To Set Step Daughter On Fire

BURLINGTON, N.C. -- The Burlington Police Department has arrested a man accused of assaulting his step children. 

According to police, it started when neighbors called 911 on 58-year-old Ronald Curtiss Strickland after he assaulted his stepson with a shovel. When police arrived, they found Strickland standing with a lighter in one hand and tossing gasoline onto his stepdaughter. 

Officers challenged Strickland to drop the lighter and gasoline. He eventually complied and was taken into custody without further incident.

Neither victim received any type of visible injury. 

Strickland was charged with Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Malicious Use of Explosives or Incendiary Materials. His bond was set at $50,000.
