Police: Former West Forsyth Coach Got Student Pregnant

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- WFMY News 2 have learned a few more details about a former Winston-Salem Forsyth County teacher and coach.

Winston-Salem Police say a former West Forsyth High School basketball coach is being investigated for having an alleged sexual relationship with a student that resulted in the student's pregnancy.

Officers say Lloyd "Derrele" Mitchell turned himself in Wednesday and is facing charges of Sexual Offense with a Student and Indecent Liberties with a Student.

According to the police report, detectives started the investigation after receiving a tip on June 1. The person said Mitchell was involved in an inappropriate sexual relationship with a student. Their investigation revealed Mitchell had engaged in sexual intercourse with the female student during the 2012 school year, while he was a teacher and a coach at R.J. Reynolds High School.

The student was also attending Reynolds.

A spokesperson for Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools said Mitchell resigned Friday. School leaders have not released any information other than they are also investigating.

Mitchell was given a $25,000.00 unsecured bond.
