Police: Woman Was Sending Text Message Before Deadly Business 85 Wreck

HIGH POINT, N.C. – High Point police now say the woman who died in an accident on Business 85 in April was sending a text message immediately before the wreck.

Initially, police said 32-year-old Courtney Sanford was posting to Facebook. They said several selfies and a reference to a popular song were among the last posts before she died.

On Tuesday, police said forensic evidence indicated she started to send a text message before she crossed the median and hit a truck on April 24.

Police are ruling Sanford's death as "Distracted Driving".

Investigators say Sanford was driving north on Business 85, near Baker Road, when she drove across the median and hit a large commercial truck. The impact caused the truck to go off the road and hit a tree. The truck driver was not hurt.

Police estimate Sanford was driving about 45 mph when she hit the truck.
