Search Continues For Missing 3-Year-Old

JACKSONVILLE, NC - The Onslow County Sheriff's Office and the FBI are asking the public for help in finding 3-year-old Mariah Woods.

The FBI released a missing poster to be featured on FBI.gov and their social media pages Tuesday afternoon after a news conference. The Onslow County Sheriff's Office are calling on partners and first responders searching on the ground and through helicopter.

The FBI has brought in the Child Abduction Rapid Deployment team to search for Woods.

"Priority Number 1 is to find Mariah," said the FBI Tuesday. "We are asking the public's help in the surrounding community for anyone that has had contact with the family from Sunday on to please contact us with any information."

The FBI says a detailed timeline is crucial to helping find Woods, who has been missing since Sunday night when she was put to bed.

Anyone with information should call the Onslow County Sheriff's Office at 910-455-3113.

Triad Law Enforcement Officials Weigh In On Search

WFMY News 2 caught up with local law enforcement officials who understand the difficulties surrounding missing children's cases.

Colonel Randy Powers with the Guilford County Sheriff's Office says that when a child disappears from their home, the sheriff's office will search the surrounding area. They can call in cadaver dogs, drones and helicopters if necessary.

He says the key part of the investigation is talking to parents, neighbors and anyone who knows the child.

"A lot of the time it means questioning and re-questioning," Colonel Powers explained. "Is their story the same? Does it change any?"

Colonel Powers said that is important to move quickly when investigating a possible abduction because the cases can become harder to solve as time goes by.
