GREENSBORO, N.C.- Fairview Elementary will start their new school year off with cheers. The teachers as well as a crowd of cheering staff will be joined by the High Point Central high drum line to welcome back students to school, which for the first time starts two weeks earlier than traditional schools.
New Principal Angela Dawson stated "It is really all about our boys and girls and we hope that our parents and students can feel the pride we have in Fairview and the desire we have for each student to succeed."
Also starting Monday is Hampton Elementary University Partnership Magnet, which will continue to reinforce its partnership with North Carolina A&T State University. The school was a year round school, but was approved in the spring to follow the 10-day extended year calendar.
Both Fairview and Hampton were chosen to go through a turnaround process to improve student achievement and build a stronger school.
Other schools opening their doors on Monday are: Allen Middle, Oak Hill Elementary, Parkview Elementary and Wiley Elementary, which all follow the 10-day extended year calender. Students are these schools attend 190 days, to more days than the usual 180 days.
