GREENSBORO, NC -- Damaging winds, and large hail could make for a rough end to the day across the Piedmont. An especially strong cold front for July is marching toward North Carolina, and will move through tonight.
Heavy showers and thunderstorms are already forming across the Piedmont. Any storm that forms throughout the rest of the day will have the ability to produce some localized damaging wind gusts over 60 mph. While damaging winds are the primary threat, hail could be found in strong and severe storms as well.
The best chance for severe weather to occur will be from the Triad eastward today.
Make sure that you are weather aware throughout the course of the day today. That means checking back with WFMY on-air, online, and on our WFMY Weather App on your smartphone to see where the storms are, how they are moving, and how strong they air.
In the meantime, it is a good idea to take any loose objects indoors. This includes lawn furniture, potted plants, toys, and anything else that may fly around during a strong thunderstorm.
By tomorrow morning, everything is fine and our weather is beautiful. Cooler temperatures and low humidity will rush into the Piedmont making for a picture-perfect stretch of days to end the week.
