Three In Custody After Manhunt, Liberty Officer Shot At

GUILFORD COUNTY, NC - A suspected drunk driver is one of three suspects in custody after at least one of them reportedly fired shots at a Liberty Police Officer Friday morning.

At approximately 2:40 a.m., a Liberty Police officer attempted a traffic stop with a driver who appeared under the influence. Liberty police say the suspect was driving a stolen SUV with an expired tag that had been involved in an Armed Robbery in Wake County.

Cristopher Pagan, 18, of Raleigh, Kolani Coates, 22, of Durham and Montravius Malik Montgomery, 20, of Apex were arrested and charged with possession of a stolen vehicle. Montgomery is also charged with Absconding from Wake County Probation.

The driver didn't stop and a chase ensued on Old Highway 421, ending somewhere near Trails End according to Jason Chabot with the Randolph County Sheriff's Department. The car swerved off the road and collided into some trees. An officer approached the car and one or more suspects shot at the officer according to a release. The officer was uninjured.

The Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team began a search along with the Guilford County Sheriff's Office Emergency Response Team and their K-9 units. Col. Randy Powers with the Guilford County Sheriff's Department said the suspect was found under a shed in a rural area in southern Guilford County. Powers also said the suspect was wanted for robbery in Raleigh.

NC Highway Patrol also assisted in the search.
