Take a Hike! NC State Parks Offer New Year's Day Hikes

RALEIGH, N.C. -- Ring in 2018 with a New Year's Day hike at one of North Carolina's state parks.

More than 40 guided hikes are scheduled in the state parks system on January 1.

The hikes range from easy to challenging, and most feature education programs led by rangers along the way.

On January 1, 2017, thousands of hikers walked several thousand miles on state park trails.

In North Carolina, the First Day Hike tradition began at Eno River State Park more than 40 years ago, an annual event that now draws more than 800 visitors.
