GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The state is set for the 6th Congressional district seat.
Republican Mark Walker will face Democrat Laura Fjeld in the general election. Walker defeated Phil Berger Junior in Tuesday night's runoff election. This is the seat Congressman Howard Coble (R) held for nearly 30 years. Less than 24 hours after Walker's win, Fjeld called Walker a radical extremist.
"We've got to elect someone like me who understands the bipartisan coalitions in Washington,so people can work effectively across the aisle," Fjeld said. "When you paint yourself into an extremist rhetoric corner, you will never be that person."
Both candidates have one thing in common. They believe they need to cut through the gridlock in Washington. Walker said building relationships and trust are key. Fjeld said electing someone like her is key because she's a working mom who knows how to budget.
