Duke Energy is reporting thousands of weather-related outages in the Triad area.
At this time, there are more than 4,500 customers affected in the area northeast of Lexington and more than 3,200 customers affected between Greensboro and High Point.
A Duke Energy spokesperson said crews are currently assessing the damage and do not have an estimate when they will restore power.
On Saturday afternoon, high winds and heavy rains moved through the Triad. WFMY News 2 received reports of penny-sized hail in the affected areas as the storms moved through.
WFMY Meteorologist Tim Buckley says the worst of Saturday's weather is finished and the rain will taper off into the evening.
