Triad Soccer Tournament Brings In $2 Million

HIGH POINT, N.C. -- A Piedmont-Triad soccer tournament. is expected to bring in an estimated two million dollars to the local economy.

That's according to the Piedmont Soccer Alliance, which kicked off the 29th Furniture City Classic Soccer Tournament august 23.

120 teams across three states are playing in the two day tournament. It's an annual even that brings around 8,000 people to High Point. Organizers said it has a sense of permanence in the city.

"I've been a part of this event for many, many years as a player, as a coach and now as a director," David Upchurch Furniture City Classic Director said. "I don't remember the area without the event. I know the High Point Furniture Market is a big event. There's also a cycling event, but this is a main money maker for the city of High Point and the legion.

The event raises money for the Piedmont Soccer Alliance, and allows it to improve Phillips Park Soccer Complex.
