Triad Teacher Cleared of Inappropriate Touching Charges

WINSTON-SALEM -- A Winston-Salem Forsyth County Schools teacher accused of inappropriately touching two students on school grounds has been cleared of the charges.

Samuel McClain says he it's a weight off his shoulders. On Tuesday, a judge put an end to months of accusations claiming McClain inappropriately touched two students.

The former Carver High School teacher was arrested in May after the students claimed he patted them on the rear end. McClain maintained his innocence when WFMY News 2's Chad Silber interviewed him after he was charged.

This week, a judge threw out the two simple assault charges saying the state didn't present enough evidence.

McClain says he's ready to move on. "You forgive and forget. Or as some people say, you can forgive, but it will always be in the back of your mind, but because I'm the type of person I am, I'm forgiving."

The real challenge for McClain now is moving on from the charges because they'll live forever online. "I hope with me coming forth once again and the decision of the judge that people won't look at the negativity part of it anymore that they're going to actually see me for who I am and that's a positive educator."

McClain says this has been a learning experience for him. He advised all educators to document everything they say and do with a student.

As for parents, he encourages them to form a working relationship with their child's teacher. "So if something was to arise, then that parent can go to that teacher in a professional manner versus not knowing that teacher and just believing anything their child tells them."

McClain says he resigned from the district because he didn't feel he could ever go back. He's hoping to find a job somewhere else, but not in a classroom.

McClain says this ordeal has made him realize he doesn't want to be a classroom teacher anymore. He has a couple job prospects he's hoping will turn into a job.
