GREENSBORO, N.C.-- You've seen the pictures, the video of complete devastation from Hurricane Matthew from Florida to North Carolina.
Many of you are asking, what can I do to help in my state?
Monday WFMY News 2 partnered with the American Cross for a relief drive via phone bank, for monetary donations only and YOU STEPPED UP for your neighbors in Eastern NC.
We're proud to announce that more than $11,000 was pledged to help with Hurricane Matthew relief.
North Carolina officials are reporting 11 deaths, and 3 people missing associated with the storm. This is the most of any of the southeast states. There are towns still under water and dozens being rescued by the hour. The rescues started Saturday afternoon and haven't stopped.
People, companies and agencies have lost everything and shelters are filling up. Gov. McCrory says the worst is yet to come as creeks, rivers and lakes continue to rise. Imagine waking up on a cot in a shelter for days and knowing you have no home or apartment to go back to because you've lost it all to an act of nature--Hurricane Matthew. That's what they're dealing with in Eastern North Carolina.
They need our help in Eastern North Carolina. Just like we did during Hurricane Floyd, we need to do what we can to help them. We are #OneCarolina. Please join us for this #OneCarolina Relief drive and make your tax-deductible contribution.
