GREENSBORO, N.C. -- WFMY News 2 received an award from the Greensboro Chapter of the American Red Cross Tuesday night.
The organization honored WFMY News 2 for significant contributions to the community and for supporting their humanitarian mission.
WFMY News 2 President and General Manager Larry Audas accepted the award as the group thanked the station for promoting their blood drive, which helped 130,000 people in the Triad community get blood. Officials also thanked WFMY News 2 for their support in local disaster relief coverage. They said $1.2 million has been raised on behalf of the Red Cross to assist with local disasters.
Several volunteer and community awards were presented at the annual meeting. The ceremony featured two speakers. One was Craig Spinale, a man who was helped by the Red Cross when he was in college and now runs marathons to give back. Another was Bethany Smith, who collapsed during an asthma attack and her little sister saved her life with CPR.
