WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- First Charlottesville, then several hurricanes and now a mass shooting in Vegas. There is a lot of pain in all of our hearts here in the U.S.
The heartache caused by these incidents inspired students and staff at Wake Forest University to come together for a prayer walk on Wednesday.
The university gave students pieces of fabric to tie to a peace pole to symbolize their mourning.
"In the ancient Jewish tradition, when they were mourning they would tear at their clothing. This is why we have these shreds of fabric," Liz Orr, Director of Catholic programming explained.
Those in attendance were encouraged to circle the quad and reflect on all that has happened.
"Hold your grief, think about it, be with it," Orr told a group of students. "Think about the ways you can embody peace in the face of violence and injustice."
