Winston-Salem Driver Killed, Passenger Injured After Tree Falls Onto Car

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Police in Winston-Salem say the afternoon storms that rolled through the Triad on Wednesday resulted in a driver being killed.

Officers say Justin Timothy Cardwell, of Winston-Salem, was killed when a large pine tree that was uprooted by strong winds fell onto his car. The accident happened in the 2000 block of Reynolda Road. Cardwell was the driver.

A passenger in the car, Rebecca Michelle Dobbins of Winston-Salem, received serious, but non-life threatening injures, police say. She was taken to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.

In Pfafftown strong winds caused light poles in a shopping center parking lot to fall on vehicles nearby. There were no reports of injures.
