Winston-Salem Police Officer Injured In Hit And Run

WINSTON-SALEM, NC - According to the Winston-Salem Police Department an officer was hit by a car Thursday afternoon. 

According to WSPD, Officer A. B. Burak went to the 2800 block of Buchanan St. to investigate an assault that happened earlier. Officer Burak tried to talk to the suspect, Antonio Renato Thomspon, but Thompson kept on walking away. 

Thompson then got into his car and Officer Burak tried to get him out. Thompson then reversed, hit Officer Burak and then drove away. 

Officer Burak has a large laceration to the back of his head but is expected to be okay. 

Thompson turned himself into police hours later and was charged with Assault with a Deadly Weapon on a Law Enforcement Officer and Felony Hit and Run. He is in the Forsyth County Jail under a $35,000 secured bond.
