Wolf Ridge Ski Resort In NC Destroyed By Fire

MADISON COUNTY, N.C.-- A lodge at Madison County's popular Wolf Ridge Ski Resort caught fire overnight and completely burned.

Firefighters received the call about the blaze at the upper lodge at 1:34 a.m., according to Madison County EOC. Ebbs Chapel Fire Department responded.

The fire is effectively out, though it is expected to smolder for much of the day.

The structure is a ruin, completely gone except for a chimney and some rock structures.

The lodge had been closed since the end of February, according to David Harrell, the lodge's manager.

"Now that we lose it, we just have to press on," Harrell said. "It's a huge loss temporarily, but it's not going to impact the future."

A Madison County Sheriff deputy on the scene said the cause of the fire is not yet determined and is still under investigation.

Several fire departments were involved in fighting the fire, but only one department remains, EOC reports.

Wolf Ridge changed ownership in February 2013. At the time, Arthur Webster LTD aimed to convert it into one of the premier resorts on the East Coast.
