Newlyweds Killed in Freak Accident in Delaware Beach Town

They were just beginning their lives together, but sadly two DC newlyweds are dead after a freak accident in Dewey Beach, Delaware.

DEWEY BEACH, DEL (WUSA9) - The Spanish Steps in Northwest, D.C. was the perfect backdrop for the wedding of Greg Chittick and Jimmy Walton.

They were married last year on October 10th, a date both would never forget.

The D.C. construction designer and his husband, a graphic designer, were avid bikers who split their time between D.C. and a home in Rehobeth Beach.

On Saturday, Delaware State Police say a man with New York plates was driving a Chevy Suburban along Coastal Highway in Dewey Beach, Del. when he had a medical emergency.

Police say the driver blacked out and his SUV crossed over to the Southbound lanes. Both Chittick and Walton were on their bikes on the sidewalk and shoulder and did their best to get out of the way, but both were killed.

The suburban flattened a utility pole and hit another car before it's destructive path ended at the parking lot of Starboard.

"There's no one to be mad at, no one to blame. It's just a sad thing," said friend Michael Reyes.

The driver is not facing any charges at this time because police say alcohol and drugs were not a factor.
