NC Budget Increases Court Reporter Pay

You've heard a lot about the 429 page proposed state budget. Most of it just seems like words running together on a page, but we want you to focus on one paragraph.

It has to do with righting a wrong 2 Wants To Know uncovered. Last year, 2 Wants to Know told you how lawmakers cut pay for court reporters from $2.50 per page to $1.25.

That caused many reporters to leave North Carolina for other states, forcing Forsyth County to shut down half of its district court rooms.

The District Attorney said that slowed the process of justice and even had some prosecutors considering more plea deals.

So 2 Wants To Know took our findings to state senator Stan Bingham. "As we have many things, we'll try something and realize it was a mistake or we need to compromise or make changes," said Bingham. "And that's in effect what's happening."

Senator Bingham got results. This new budget would raise pay back up to $2 per page. That's 2 Wants To Know working with lawmakers for your best interest.
