NCDOT Starts Work On Business I-40 West In Kernersville

KERNERSVILLE, N.C.-- Monday, N.C. Department of Transportation (NCDOT) started construction along a busy stretch of I-40 Business. NCDOT crews are widening a two-lane stretch of U.S. 421/Interstate 40 Business in Kernersville. The work was delayed last week because of rain.

What Drivers Need to Know: During the work, crews will close the right outside lane of US 421/I-40 Business westbound near Exit 15 at Macy Grove Road.

Construction is slated to be complete on Monday, Aug. 11, weather permitting.

According to NCDOT, The work is part of the project to widen and extend Macy Grove Road from Industrial Drive to Mountain Street in Kernersville, including a new interchange at US 421/I-40 Business. The purpose of this project is to increase the traffic capacity along the roadway, which will ease back-ups and improve flow of critical hospital emergency traffic that utilizes the highway.

The project is the first phase of what will eventually become the new Kernersville Loop that will tie into the future interchange with the Macy Grove Road Improvements Project..
