New Report on North Carolina Drought Condition

The latest report on drought conditions in North Carolina shows two-thirds of the state is either in moderate drought or is abnormally dry.

The latest report from the Drought Management Advisory Council on Thursday lists 24 counties in the center of the state as in moderate drought. The area stretches from the Virginia border to the South Carolina border.

According to the council, counties listed as being in moderate drought to enact a series of precautions. They include minimizing non-essential uses of water and adjusting water usage to prolong the existing supply.

The report says 47 counties, all but about a dozen in the coastal plain, are reported as abnormally dry. The council advises those counties to prepare drought response actions for water users.
