Patchy Frost Possible for Some Tonight

What You Need To Know About Frost

GREENSBORO, NC -- The first frost of the season will happen for some in our area tonight. Chilly air will be with us most mornings this week, with Wednesday morning being the coldest.

Clear skies and light winds overnight will allow our temperature to drop like a rock. Lows will reach the upper 30s in many of the cities, with low 30s possible in the coldest outlying areas.

A frost advisory is in effect for the mountains and Foothills, including Wilkes, Yadkin, Surry, Stokes, and Davie Counties in the Piedmont. Patchy frost is likely in these areas as temperatures dip into the low-mid 30s overnight. Even outside of those counties, an isolated light frost is possible.

If there are any plants that you're concerned about, it's a good idea to water them before sunset, and protect them with some fabric tonight. Make sure to remove that fabric quickly tomorrow morning.

This is the time of year we typically start to see our first frosts of the year. The Foothills average their first freeze in mid October, with the Piedmont averaging by late October.

Even with chilly mornings, our afternoons will be comfortable. Highs will reach the upper 60s Wednesday afternoon, and then back into the 70s Thursday into the weekend.
