School board members say Draper Elementary and Dillard Elementary will shut down. The closures will take effect for the 2018-2019 school year.

New Vision School of Science, Math, and Technology, which is a year-round school, will also move into the Dillard Elementary building.

Current Dillard students will have the option stay there if they switch from a traditional calendar to year-round.

According to the Rodney Shotwell, Dillard and Draper were operating at about 45% capacity. He says the district will save more than $500,000 yearly by closing the schools.

The school board says a final decision on where impacted students will go is expected in the next few months.

Superintendent Shotwell is recommending the board divide students from Draper Elementary between Lincoln and Central Elementary schools. He wants students at Dillard Elementary to be divided between Huntsville and Stoneville Elementary schools.

Shotwell says teachers from the two closing schools will be reassigned to new schools along with students.
