GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Get ready drivers, one of the busiest roads in Greensboro is scheduled to be repaved. The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) plans to resurface a section Wendover Avenue from West Market Street to Clifton Road.
Before the road can be repaved, construction crews will begin milling the area. Morning and lunch commuters shouldn't be too concerned, that's because work will be done between the hours of 7:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m., Sunday through Thursday nights.
According to NCDOT, this portion of Wendover Avenue is pounded by nearly 50,000 vehicles during peak travel hours. This is the main reason that time frame was chosen. Nighttime construction is the best alternative for preventing delays and accidents during a major project like this one, NCDOT says.
The project is scheduled to be complete by Thursday, Oct. 2 or at an earlier date.
"The condition of the pavement has been evaluated and portions of the roadway is deteriorating." Division Staff Engineer Stanley Buff said, "This will give us an opportunity to renew one of the most highly traveled portions of Wendover Avenue and ultimately restore the smooth commute for drivers along this roadway."
Safety First: Because safety is the number one priority, backup alarms will be utilized on all equipment during the work. Artificial lighting and warning strobe lights will also be used. There could be some inconveniences during construction due to more noise and lighting than normal. However, the NCDOT contractor is dedicated to working diligently and continuously to complete this project as soon as possible.
