Car Crash Leads to Power Outage for Some In Guilford County

Nearly 30 homes without power in part of Guilford County after a woman slammed into a power pole which knocked over a second one along Highway 70.

GUILFORD COUNTY, N.C.--A vehicle crash caused a power outage in Guilford County. It happened early Friday morning on U.S. 70 near Knox Road. 

Troopers say a woman ran off the road and slammed into a power pole. The pole fell and knocked down a power pole and transformer across the street. Troopers say a second vehicle slammed into the downed pole and a third car hit the transformer in the road.

The woman involved in the first crash was sent to the hospital with non life threatening injuries. No word on the condition of the other two drivers .

Meanwhile, nearly 30 homes are without power because of the damaged power poles. Duke Energy is working to restore power. Workers say the power should be restored by noon.

The crash also caused a traffic problem for drivers. U.S. 70 is shut down between Knox and Ambling Road.

It could be closed for hours as workers clear the crash and debris.

Drivers are encouraged to avoid the area and find alternate routes.
