Two people died and three suffered serious injuries stemming from a three-car accident on NC Highway 14 Sunday afternoon in Rockingham County.
Master Trooper Chris Knox with the State Highway Patrol says that a Dodge Neon was heading north driving recklessly, crossing into the southbound lanes and hitting a GMC Envoy head on around 1:30 p.m. The Neon then struck a pickup truck.
The driver of the Neon, Katherine Michelle Casteneda of Rocky Mount, VA, and the front-seat passenger, Filadelfo B. Bahena of Reidsville, died at the scene. There were two other passengers in the car. 31-year-old Jose Garcia was partially ejected and his injuries were considered life-threatening. The 23-month old child of the driver was also seriously hurt and taken to Brennar Children's Hospital.
Reidsville resident Yevette Marcelle Parker was driving the Envoy and suffered serious injuries. 20-year old Joseph Nathaniel Barnes of Eden was identified as the driver of the pickup truck and was uninjured.
Specific speeds, restraint uses, possible impairment and distractions are still under investigation and no conclusions on these items have been determined.
