Georgia Neighborhood Protests Justin Bieber Coming To Area

BUCKHEAD, GA -- Not in my neighborhood.

You hear that all the time about landfills or commercial buildings moving in to a residential area, but what about a pop star?

Residents in Buckhead are protesting Justin Bieber after he allegedly looked at some homes in the area.

11Alive's Kaitlyn Ross joins us now with why they say they want to keep him out.

Tree lined streets, beautiful estates, and... Justin Bieber?!

Some neighbors in Buckhead are saying baby, baby, baby, no.

Almost 100 people have joined a Facebook group protesting Justin Bieber's plans to move to Buckhead.

They've made signs and plan to petition the singer to stay out.

"People have a right to protest and he has a right to buy a home," said Buckhead Neighborhood Coalition President Sam Massell.

He is not planning to attend the protest, but says they have every right to do it.

"I think picketing is an American form of expressing yourself," he said.

Buckhead is already home to a number of celebrities including Janet Jackson and Elton John. While they got a warm welcome, Massell says the neighborhood wasn't exactly happy to see him when he moved there in the 70's.

"There were some people who opposed it," he said.

Massell says people picketed outside his home when he moved to Buckhead after he was elected Mayor of Atlanta in the early 70's, though he's not sure why.

"I wasn't the one picketing, you'd have to ask them why," he said.

The group protesting Bieber's move is clear about their intentions.

They posted his mug shot after a recent DUI arrest, and complain he would bring property values down.

No matter his past, Massell says they roll out the red carpet for anyone who wants to own a home in Buckhead... as long as they follow the rules.

"We expect him to obey the laws like everybody else does," he said.

The protest will be here at one of the homes Justin Bieber is allegedly eyeing at 6 a.m. Monday.
