Mom Pays Entire Schools' Unpaid Lunch Bill after Son Denied

DOWAGIAC, Mich.-- In today's economy, it's not uncommon to hear about unpaid school lunch bills. At most schools, if a child has an unpaid lunch account balance, they're usually denied the "main" lunch, but some schools will provide some basics, like a sandwich, a fruit and something to drink.

What happened at a school in Michigan angered a mother after her son was embarrassed over his unpaid balance, which was less than $5.00. It was the embarrassment and anger that fueled her to get 'payback' and now she's the school hero. It's also getting her national attention.

Dominic Gant told CBS Station WWMT that he was humiliated when Dowagiac school officials took away his lunch because there wasn't enough money in his account. Dominic had an outstanding balance of less than $5 on his lunch account, the station reported.

Dowagiac High School is like many other schools that have a policies that denies a hot lunch, and sometimes any lunch, to students who can't pay.

Things took a hard left when Dominic's mom Amanda Keown found out. She then took matters into her own hands.

Not wanting to see another student sent home hungry, she paid off every student's outstanding balance in the entire high school, which was reportedly less than $100 dollars.
