WFMY News 2 Announces Gannett Foundation Grant Recipient

Greensboro, N.C. -- Recently, the Gannett Foundation awarded grants to the many communities served by Gannett Co., Inc.

WFMY News 2, President and General Manager, Larry Audas presented a grant in the amount of $1,000 to Cyndy Hayworth, President, Junior Achievement of Central North Carolina, Inc. This contribution will be used for programming that will help Triad area students relate their classroom learning to real career and life situations through hands-on, experiential-learning activities delivered by community volunteers.

Junior Achievement of Central North Carolina is an international non-profit agency that works with K-12 students to teach them the skills they don't learn in the classroom. JA's mission is to inspire young people to succeed in a global economy by bringing volunteers from the local business community into the schools. The Gannett Foundation serves those communities in which Gannett Co., has a local daily newspaper, broadcast station or cable TV operation. The program makes contributions to qualified nonprofit organizations to improve the education, health and advancement of the people who live in Gannett communities. The contributions help to improve the quality of life and address the most pressing community issues. The foundation values projects that take a creative approach to fundamental issues as education and neighborhood improvement, economic development, youth development, community problem-solving, assistance to disadvantaged people, environmental conservation and cultural enrichment.
