Why Were So Many Fire Trucks In Downtown Greensboro Sunday Morning?

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- There were several fire trucks outside the Bellemeade Street parking deck Sunday morning, but there was no emergency.

Firefighters used the deck to simulate a high-rise fire. Chief Kenny Stanley says there were about 26 firefighters, and several fire vehicles, involved in the drill. Stanley says it typically takes 60 to 70 firefighters to take on a real high-rise fire.

Stanley says firefighters did well in the drill and that the key to fighting high-rise fires is practice, since they don't happen often.

The fire department uses the deck some weekends because of the reduced traffic downtown.

Firefighters finished their drill around 9:30 Sunday morning.
