Greensboro, NC - Page High School quarterback and four-star recruit James Summers confirmed all the rumors on Thursday. He has now verbally committed to play football for the University of North Carolina.
"Yes, I did change, I really did, yup," said Summers in an exclusive interview with WFMY News 2 Sports. "I feel like it's a better place right now."
Before Thursday, Summers had been known as NC State's top recruit.
"The new offense that they (UNC) run over there, and the competition I have to go for, that's a better place for me to go on with my career," said Summers. "I have a better chance to make things happen over there."
Summers told WFMY News 2 he met with new North Carolina head coach Larry Fedora earlier this week. "(Fedora) told me what he had over there, was straight up front, and told me if I could come in and compete, maybe I'd compete, and start my freshman year."
The Page senior told Sports Anchor Brian Formica he would be playing quarterback for the Tar Heels.
This past seaon, Summers led the Pirates a 15-0 record and the schools first State Championship since 1985.
