WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Senior C.J. Harris, junior Travis McKie and sophomore Chase Fischer were selected as Wake Forest's team captains for the 2012-13 season. The three were voted as captains by their teammates.
Harris is in his third year as team captain.
He is one of just eight players in school history to serve as a team captain for at least three seasons, joining Vanderbilt Couch (1906-09), Howard Hanby (1917-19), Frank Johnson (1979-81), Sam Ivy (1988-90), Randolph Childress (1993-95), Ishmael Smith (2008-10) and L.D. Williams (2008-10).
Harris is the leading returning scorer in the ACC after averaging 16.7 points per game last season. A three-year starter, Harris earned third team All-ACC honors last season and also eclipsed the 1,000-point plateau.
McKie is the second-leading returning scorer in the ACC behind Harris, averaging 16.1 points per game to earn honorable mention All-ACC honors last year. McKie ranks 12th in school history with 7.3 rebounds per game for his career. He is on the verge of becoming just the fourth Demon Deacon in the past 15 seasons with 1,000 career points and 500 career rebounds.
Fischer, a sophomore guard, was one of the Deacons' biggest bench contributors a year ago, averaging 6.3 points and 2.2 rebounds per game. The team's fifth-leading scorer, Fischer hit 39 3-pointers last season, which was the seventh-highest total for a freshman in school history.
Wake Forest will host Rollins in an exhibition game on Friday, Nov. 2, at 7 p.m. at the Lawrence Joel Coliseum. The Deacons will open the regular season a week later on Nov. 9 when they host Radford at 7 p.m.
