Greensboro, NC (Sports Network) - Travis McKie scored 19 points, leading four players in double figures, as the Wake Forest Demon Deacons captured an 84-70 win over the Spartans of UNCG in non-conference action at Greensboro Coliseum.
Chase Fischer came off the bench to knock down all three of his 3-point tries, finishing with 14 points, while Devin Thomas and C.J. Harris contributed 12 and 11 points, respectively, as Wake Forest (6-5)won for the third time in the last four outings.
The Spartans (2-8) were paced by Trevis Simpson who poured in a game-high 25 points and handed out four assists, but still the team suffered a third straight setback. Derrell Armstrong and Kayel Locke came off the bench to contribute 16 and 10 points, respectively, but also combine for seven of the unit's 16 turnovers on the day.
Shooting 5-of-9 behind the 3-point line in the first half, the Demon Deacons fashioned a 38-29 lead at the break, despite converting just 9-of-15 at the free-throw line over the first 20 minutes of action.
In the second half Wake Forest dipped to 2-of-7 on the perimeter, but the squad made good on 14-of-17 at the charity stripe and 57.7 percent from the floor overall in order to pull away in the 14-point win.
Wake Forest, which was guilty of 16 turnovers and pulled down just four offensive rebounds, outscored the hosts by a 23-12 margin at the stripe on the day.
With the win the Demon Deacons remained perfect all-time against UNCG at 7-0.
