DURHAM, N.C. - Ryan Kelly was named ACC Player of the Week on Monday after leading No. 1 Duke to wins over Davidson and Wake Forest. Kelly is the fourth Duke player to earn ACC Player of the Week honors this season, joining Seth Curry (Dec. 31), Mason Plumlee (Dec. 3) and Quinn Cook (Nov. 23).
Kelly averaged 20.0 points, 5.5 rebounds and 1.0 blocks per game last week while shooting .727 (8-of-11) from three-point range in Duke's two victories. The performances extended a lengthy hot streak for Kelly, who leads Duke with a .500 three-point shooting percentage (23-of-46) on the season while shooting 72.2 percent (13-of-18) over his last five games.
In the 67-50 win over Davidson on Wednesday, Kelly scored 18 points and grabbed seven rebounds while hitting three of his four three-point attempts and 5-of-8 shots from the floor. The 18 points were a season high until he surpassed that total with 22 points in an 80-62 win over Wake Forest on Saturday. The 22-point outburst against the Demon Deacons included a 5-of-7 shooting performance from three-point range, four rebounds and a block as Kelly extended his blocks streak to 11 games and his consecutive games with a three-pointer streak to eight games.
With 842 career points, Kelly is on pace to become the 63rd Duke player to join the 1,000-point club. His season scoring average of 13.5 is a career best, as are his 5.4 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.8 blocks.
Kelly and the Blue Devils continue ACC play on Tuesday when Clemson visits Cameron Indoor Stadium for a 7:02 p.m. tipoff. The following Saturday, Jan. 12, will pit the ACC's preseason No. 1 and No. 2 teams against one another as the Blue Devils face No. 20 NC State in Raleigh.
