Elon, NC (Sports Network) - Ryley Beaumont registered a double-double with 22 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Elon Phoenix to a 61-58 decision over the Appalachian State Mountaineers in a Southern Conference tilt at Alumni Gym.
Jack Isenbarger filled the stat sheet with 16 points, five rebounds and five assists while Sebastian Koch had 11 points. Elon (17-8, 10-3 SoCon) has won nine of its last 10 contests.
Jay Canty paced the Mountaineers (11-14, 7-7) with 17 points and nine boards. Nathan Healy chipped in 12 points.
Elon led 31-26 at intermission after Appalachian State shot just 1-of-9 from behind the arc in the opening period and turned the ball over nine times.
ASU took control midway through the second half when Healy and Tevin Baskin sparked a 13-3 run which gave the visitors a 53-45 lead. But Beaumont brought Elon back with a couple of timely baskets. His free throws with 58 seconds remaining brought the Phoenix to within one at 58-57.
After Kevin Blake stole the ball from Canty, Elon took the clock down and Koch drew another foul with five seconds left. He made both attempts, which proved to be the difference in the game as Healy turned the ball over at the other end.
Despite the loss, ASU still leads the all-time series, 52-43.
