ELON, N.C. -- The Elon University Department of Athletics has announced the 2013 Phoenix football schedule as well as ticket information for the upcoming season. The 12-game slate features six games at home in Rhodes Stadium as well as the program's first-ever match-up against Georgia Tech and the renewal of a local rivalry with North Carolina A&T. The 2013 campaign will be the third at the helm of the Elon program for coach Jason Swepson.

"We will face a challenging schedule which includes a very strong non-conference schedule in 2013," stated Swepson. "We hope to get off to a good start early in the year and use that momentum throughout the season."

The 2013 season will get underway on August 31 when the maroon and gold travels to Atlanta, Ga., to battle the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. It will mark Elon's sixth contest against a Football Bowl Subdivision opponent and its fourth against an ACC foe.

"Our opener is against a great opponent in Georgia Tech," added Swepson. "I know that our players from Georgia will be excited to go to Atlanta and play against the Yellow Jackets."

Elon will open the home portion of its schedule the following week as West Virginia Wesleyan visits Rhodes Stadium on Sept. 7. The Phoenix will honor United States Military personnel at that game by holding Military Appreciation Day.

Elon and North Carolina A&T will renew their rivalry on the gridiron in Greensboro, N.C., on Sept. 14 as the Phoenix and Aggies will meet for the first time since 2006. The two teams, located less than 20 miles apart, had played for eight consecutive seasons before the series concluded.

Stated Swepson, "We are very excited to renew the series with North Carolina A&T. They are located just down the road and it will be a great chance for our fans to come and support us on the road."

Elon will be back at Rhodes Stadium in each of its next two contests. Southern Conference play gets started for the Phoenix when the maroon and gold hosts Appalachian State for its annual Hall of Fame Weekend game on Sept. 21. Elon will then welcome in Coastal Carolina for Family Weekend on Sept. 28.

"The Southern Conference is always a strong and competitive league," said Swepson. "I know that our fans will help to create an electric environment for our SoCon opener at home against Appalachian State."

October brings a return to SoCon play and two trips to the Upstate of South Carolina as the Phoenix visits Furman on Oct. 5 and Wofford on Oct. 12.

Elon's annual Live Pink game will be held on Oct. 19 as Chattanooga visits Rhodes Stadium.

The final Saturday in October, the 26th, will be spent in the mountains of North Carolina as the Phoenix travels to Cullowhee to take on Western Carolina.

Homecoming will be held on Nov. 9 against The Citadel before the final home game of the regular season is contested on Nov. 16 against Georgia Southern. That final game will be Community Day with the Phoenix.

The 2013 regular season will conclude with a visit to Birmingham, Ala. and a Nov. 23 tilt against the Samford Bulldogs.
