GREENSBORO, N.C. - Pairings are set for the 2013 Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Basketball Tournament, which will be held March 7-10 at the Greensboro Coliseum.
Regular-season champion Duke (27-2 overall, 17-1 ACC) is seeded first in the tournament field and will be seeking its third ACC title in the last four years. Maryland (23-6, 14-4) is seeded No. 2, followed by No. 3 North Carolina (26-5, 14-4) (determined by a coin toss after all other tie breakers were exhausted) and No. 4 Florida State (21-8, 11-7).
Each of the top four seeds earned first-round byes and will open play on Friday, March 8 in the quarterfinal round. Duke entered this weekend ranked No.4/5 nationally, while Maryland was ranked eighth in both the Associated Press and USA Today polls, North Carolina No. 15/17 and Florida State 24th in both polls.
The first round of the 36th Annual ACC Women's Basketball Tournament is set to tip-off at 11 a.m. ET on Thursday, March 7, and will conclude with a 2 p.m. championship contest on Sunday, March 10. The title game will be shown nationally by ESPN2, while the first round, quarterfinal and semifinals games will be televised on the league's regional sports package. RSN, which reaches nearly 32 million households and includes FOX Sports Carolinas, FOX Sports South, FOX Sports Florida, Sun Sports, Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic, and NESN. Those games will also be available via ESPN3 and WatchESPN.
The Thursday first-round and Friday quarterfinal games will be televised at 11 a.m., 3 p.m., 6 p.m. and 8 p.m., while Saturday's semifinal games will be played at 1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.
Thursday's first-round matchups feature fifth-seeded Miami (20-9, 11-7) vs. No. 12 Virginia Tech (10-19, 4-14) at 11 a.m. No. 8 NC State (15-15, 7-11) faces No. 9 Clemson (9-20, 5-13) at 3 p.m. The 6 p.m. matchup finds No. 7 Georgia Tech (14-15, 7-11) facing No. 10 Wake Forest (12-18, 5-13). No. 6 Virginia (16-13, 8-10) faces No. 11 Boston College (11-18, 5-13) at 8 p.m.
