Charlotte, NC - The Carolina Panthers have released cornerback Chris Gamble, the team announced Friday. A veteran of nine NFL seasons, all with the Panthers, Gamble played in four games in 2012 before suffering a season-ending shoulder injury.
The Panthers selected Gamble in the first round (28th overall) of the 2004 NFL Draft out of Ohio State. He is the Panthers franchise leader with 27 career interceptions, including two returned for touchdowns, and his 117 career regular season starts are the most by a cornerback in franchise history.
"I appreciate the contributions of Chris during my first two years as head coach and to the organization for many years," says Ron Rivera. "He always handled things the right way and we wish him the best."
Gamble has played in 123 career regular season games with 117 starts. He has produced 558 tackles, the third-highest mark in team history, 27 interceptions and 84 passes defensed. Gamble also started four postseason games with the Panthers.
